Featured on CNN, Mashable, Forbes, and more, E.X.O. – The Legend of Wale Williams is a science fiction superhero story about redemption, set in a futuristic 2025 Africa. Part two continues to chronicle the journey of Wale Williams a.k.a EXO, who was last seen hanging on for dear life after his first encounter with the incredibly powerful and sinister Oniku, leader of the extremist group, The CREED. After his shocking revelation, Oniku now has all he needs to launch a crippling attack at the heart of Lagoon City, an attack that would be felt across the nation of Nigeria. “E.X.O – The Legend of Wale Williams, Part 2” is the second part to the two part introduction of both Wale Williams’ story and the entire Youneek Youniverse as a whole. To start, I highly recommend getting Part 1 first and/or in addition to this book, so as not to spoil anything in the flow of the story and to understand everything that’s going on. (Getting them both means you also don’t have to worry about any cliffhangers.)

(Slight spoilers about the end of the prior book.) Part 2 picks up sometime after the end of Part 1, with Wale arising from his coma after having been saved from the fullest extent of Oniku’s wrath by Fury. Having to pick up the pieces after this pride-stomping defeat, Wale gains two new allies who help him learn about the source of his powers, and in turn help him to practice and master them. What he’d been doing up to this point doesn’t even scratch the surface of what he can do, and he’ll need all the training, experience, and insight he can get if he’s to stand a chance against Oniku.

Speaking of, we learn more of Oniku, including who he is and exactly what he’s trying to do. As utterly reprehensible as he most assuredly is, it’s left to the reader to decide in the end how they ultimately feel about him.

Part 2 continues to deliver on what Part 1 began, and then some. As someone who really grew to love seeing Wale/E.X.O. in action, Part 2 granted me many awesome scenes and poses of his sleek look, as he goes from honing his skills to taking the fight back to Oniku for round 2. This Part overall also has more action, a plus for those who love that, but it also levies that with some serious and dark reveals in-between.

Among everything, though, what I would say is top on my favorites list of what this book does is what it appears to seed. There are numerous little hints that potentially points to Wale/E.X.O. eventually being part of a wider superhero family, immediate and extended (depending on how things pan out). Likewise, his adversaries aren’t stopping at Oniku. Not by a long shot. Whatever way things go, I loved the potential foreshadowing of things to come, because I’ve long since come to love Roye Okupe’s Youniverse, and want to see more of what it holds.

If you’re looking for just that, the beautiful and kick-butt majesty of a creator-owned world as it comes to life before your eyes, or if you want to see stories with people of color being the heroes, villains and everything in-between, without hesitation or reservation, OR if you just love superhero comics and are itching for something new to read, I highly recommend starting off with both Part 1 and Part 2 of “E.X.O. – The Legend of Wale Willaims”. Once you do, I’m rather confident you’ll get hooked on this new Youniverse like I have.
